Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / The opposition leader who loses democratic elections should step down, Sardar Jalaloglu, the chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) stated.
Presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008. Political leaders are holding negotiations to determine a single candidate from the opposition. Some opposition parties proposed to boycott the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
The DPA will not demonstrate its position until the election situation is revealed.
"Our goal is to determine one candidate from the opposition. The DPA is ready to withdraw their own candidature to choose one candidate from the opposition. If other political parties follow a similar policy onecandidate can be chosen.The opposition cannot nominate one candidate if parties follow their own political interests," Jalaloglu said.
The DPA was founded by Sardar Jalaloglu in 1991.
