Congress of Azerbaijanis in   Ukraine    Intends to Adopt a Long-Term Development  Strategy

Ukraine, Kiev /corr. Trend Z.Novozotovski / The Azerbaijanis residing in Ukraine intend to adopt a long-term strategy to develop their communities in the Country. "Yet we have not strategic plan for the development of the Azerbaijani community in Ukraine. Now we want to determine key directions of our development for a long-term outlook," said the Chairman of the Congress of Azerbaijanis in Ukraine (KAU), Akif Gulmammadov.

The program will regard the cultural and sport development of nearly 500.000 Azerbaijanis, regional development, work of the KAU committees of youth and women. In addition, directions of the co-operation with the Azerbaijani diasporas in other countries will be determined for a long-term outlook.

The Control Inspection Commission will assess the work of the Heads of CAU regional departments for implementing the program. The working group which should devise long-term strategic development program of the Azerbaijani diaspora has been established during the CAU Conference on 15 October 2007. In addition, the meeting adopted the new Charter of the CAU. It envisages establishing a new inspection commission.

Moreover, the document includes limitations for terms of holding the position of the head of the regional departments. According to the Charter, those who possess higher education, knowledge of Azeri, Ukrainian and Russian languages may head the CAU regional departments.

The Congress of Azerbaijanis in Ukraine was established in 1997. The CAU is represented in 25 regions and cities of Ukraine. The Congress unifies 26.000 Azerbaijanis.
