Extension of prosecutor-general office's term is not a subject of discussions in Azerbaijan, Head of the Parliamentary Commission on Legal Policy and State Building Ali Huseyinov told a conference "Use of legal precedents of the European Court in courts in Azerbaijan".
"A deputy displayed an initiative to extend prosecutor-general office's term. This matter is not the subject f discussions in parliament," Huseyinov said.
Under the Article 133 of the Azerbaijan Constitution, the President appoints and dismiss attorney-general in consent with parliament.
By the Article 16 on Office of Public Prosecutor, the term of attorney-general office is five years. One is elected to the post only twice.
Prosecutor-General Zakir Garalov has been elected to the post for the second term. The term of his office expires in April 2010.
Over 60 deputies appealed to parliament related to extension the term of ombudsman in Azerbaijan.
According to Huseyinov, the Law on Ombudsman was adopted while this institute was forming in the country, and therefore one is elected to the ombudsman post only once.
The term of the current ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova expires in July 2009. The President will present to the parliament the names of three candidates. Ombudsman is elected for seven years priod.
