Seventeen new telemetry seismic stations with satellite communication were opened in Azerbaijan in 2009-2011. Seven telemetry seismic stations operating via satellite communication were opened in Azerbaijan in 2011, the official website of the National Seismological Service Center of ANAS said on Wednesday.
Three of these stations are located in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (Ordubad, Shahbuz, Heydarabad), four in Gobustan, Gabala, Qusar (Kharza) and Guba (Khinalig) regions. The center has 31 seismic stations operating via satellite communication at the moment.
Devices for seismic stations, which will be built in Aghdam, Fizuli and Beylagan were purchased overseas and brought to Azerbaijan in 2011. The center will complete the installation of three subsea seismic stations in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in the second quarter of 2012. These stations will be located near the Umid, Shah Deniz and Azeri fields.
The center cooperates with the geophysical and seismological institutes in 14 countries at the moment.
