Religious groups with material resources in Azerbaijan are trying to get the poor into their ranks under the guise of humanitarian aid , the director of the Human Rights Institute of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences , MP Ayten Mustafayeva said at the conference 'Religion and Freedom of Conscience: legal, political and social aspects'.
"Hundreds of religious groups are registered in Azerbaijan. There are peaceful and harmless groups among them. However, there are those who pose a serious threat to national interests and security," she said.
Under the guise of religious activities, representatives of foreign entities are establishing their cell representation in Azerbaijan, collecting various kinds of information about political, military and economic situation in Azerbaijan.
Head of the institute called on the relevant authorities of Azerbaijan to take the activity of these groups seriously because of their potential danger.
