The prisoners pardoned by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree are being released today.

Around 79 of those sentenced to imprisonment, four from those sentenced to conditional sentence, four having a penalty in the form of a fine have been pardoned. There are also Iranian, Georgian, Nigerian, Turkish and Bangladeshi citizens among those pardoned.

Journalists Aydin Janiyev and Anar Bayramli, human rights activists Vidadi Iskanderli and Taleh Khasmammadov and head of the organisational department of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party Shahin Hasanli are also in the list of those pardoned.

Employees of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman's office, public and media representatives are involved in executing the pardon decree.

While executing the pardon order, deputy head of the penitentiary service under the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry Huseyn Alikhanov expressed confidence that the pardoned individuals will not commit crimes again.

Many acts of pardon have been recently adopted in Azerbaijan. The last presidential order is another humane act, human rights activist and MP Genghis Ganizade said.

So far around 5530 individuals have been pardoned in Azerbaijan.
