Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 24 / Trend I. Izzet /

An investigation has been conducted in relation to those arrested during the incident that took place at the Bina shopping centre, the Ombudsman's Office press service told Trend on Thursday.

Members of the National Preventive Group (NPG) attached to the Ombudsman's Office for prevention of torture carried out an investigation with regard to those detained over events at the Bina shopping centre.

As a result of the investigation it was ascertained that the Sabail District Court sentenced 10 people to two months of imprisonment as a measure of restraint and a criminal case was initiated under Article 221 and 315 of the Criminal Code. Furthermore, according to Art. 310.1 of the Azerbaijani Administrative Code, two people were administratively arrested for 10 days.

The NPG group members met with the 10 detainees in Baku Detention Facility of the Penitentiary Service of the Justice Ministry, as well as with others detained in connection with these events and kept at the department of the Baku Chief Police Department of Interior Ministry for those held in administrative detention.

The detainees did not express displeasure over their conditions of detention.

In addition, the NPG members investigated the tenth department of Garadagh district Police Department and the temporary detention facilities of the Yasamal and Khatai districts.

In connection with the investigation results, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova will submit a report to the Attorney General and Azerbaijani Interior Minister.

As reported earlier, on January 19 a group of entrepreneurs working at the Bina shopping centre in the Garadagh district of Baku protested against an additional fee imposed by the shopping centre's management for holding an unauthorised rally and blocking the Baku-Astara highway near the centre.

Ignoring the warnings to stop disturbing public order, the rally participants resisted the police putting their lives and health in danger.

Service cars were damaged and 10 police officers were injured as a result of the incident.
