Fernando Alonso, two-time winner of the Formula One World Championship, considers it very important to participate in the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe in Baku as an ambassador.

Alonso is currently in the McLaren Honda team.

"The road racers are testing the fast track in Baku," Alonso said at a press conference March 8. "We will get great pleasure from this race."

"People usually watch this competition on TV," he said. "However, this is a special feeling to participate in organizing this race."

Alonso added that all necessary conditions for competition have been created in Baku.

"Besides the track, there are also excellent infrastructure and hotels," he said. "I believe that this will be an unforgettable event."

He added that while turning, the road racers should sharply reduce speed.

Alonso said that the road racers will be able to speed up to 340 km / h during the competition in Baku.

Alonso also spoke about Formula 1 development.

He said that this competition has greatly developed for the past two years.

"We try to further promote Formula 1 in the world," he said. "Formula 1 will be held in Azerbaijan for the first time."

"I believe that Azerbaijani people will enjoy this competition because Formula 1 is one of the world most popular kinds of sports."

While responding to a question whether the Formula 1 competitions will affect the historical monuments of Baku, Alonso said that the competition will not create any problems because everything has been organized at the highest level.
