BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. A memorial event titled "Justice for Khojaly!" was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, organized by the "GALA" Greece-Azerbaijan Friendship Society, the State Committee for Diaspora Affairs told Trend.
The event was attended by local public representatives and members of the Azerbaijani community.
The event began with a minute of silence in remembrance of the victims of the Khojaly genocide and the brave sons who sacrificed their lives for the integrity of the homeland.
Rashid Mammadov, Chairman of the "GALA" Society, delivered the opening speech, providing detailed information about the Khojaly tragedy. He emphasized that thanks to the successful policies of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, and Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, the Khojaly genocide is now recognized in many countries around the world. He urged compatriots and public organizations to continue advocating Azerbaijan's rightful stance at international and regional events, as well as on social media platforms.
The event also highlighted the visits of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to Khojaly, where they met with the local residents. It was noted that after 31 years of suffering, Khojaly is now reviving. Comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure safe living conditions, employment, and the well-being of repatriated Azerbaijanis. Efforts are also being made to protect and restore the environment.
The event concluded with the screening of videos and a photo exhibition dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
Such activities carried out by diaspora organizations and activists are extremely beneficial in terms of accurately conveying Azerbaijan's realities and historical truths to the international community.
