The Protection Fund against Corruption (PFC) and Association for Assistance to Civil Society Development in Azerbaijan (AACSDA) held a meeting in large in Sumgayit. Attending the event were independent lawyers, President of Sumgayit Entrepreneurs Association, representatives of the Resource Center on Human Rights, non-governmental organizations and political parties, as well as city municipality, education and health divisions, police and finance department, Sumgayit Prosecutor Office, including candidates balloting in the parliamentary elections, Trend reports.
The PFC and the AACSDA organize regular events in the regions of the country to analyze the level of the corruption and struggle with it. The goal of similar event is to attract representatives of all social levels to struggle with corruption.
In his remarks, Vasif Movsumov, the Executive Director of the Fund, said that the main goal of the roundtable was discussion of implementation of the law on struggle with corruption by state bodies in Sumgayit, level of corruption and measures taken in this regard. The observations and research revealed that corruption is more spread in the spheres of education and heath, as well as legal system, State Traffic Police Department, Housing and Communal Economy.
At the end the participants of the event made a decision on establishment of Anti-Corruption Coordination Council in Sumgayit with participation of representatives of community and state bodies to intensify struggle with corruption. The main function of the Council is to submit applicants and complaints of citizens and legal entities met with corruption to state bodies, as well as render free legal aid.
