The European Court for Human Rights, registered the first collective complaint of five prisoners formerly sentenced to death, Eldar Zeynalov, Director of the Azerbaijan Human Rights Centre said, Trend reports.
Their complaint is related to issue of 15 years and the conditions of live imprisonment. According to the human rights activist, the conditions of our sentenced-to-death prisoners are worse in comparison with Ukrainian ones, who had won a case in the European Court. It should be said, that it was not the first complaint of those prisoners to the European Court. The fact that the complaint was registered does not mean that it has been accepted. In a year, the Court will consider whether to accept the complaint to legal proceedings or not, said Mr. Zeynalov.
Today, nine members of the Public Committee for Prisons Monitoring, founded within the Justice Ministry of the Country, have visited the Gobustan Prison to get acquainted with the current situation over there and to further discuss a number of questions. However, Kamil Salimov, Coordinator of the Public Committee said that he can not open the information on the visit to the public yet.
