Three Bodies Expected to be Trapped under Ruins of Collapsed Building in   Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / Т corr E.Huseynli / The investigation carried out by the Prosecutor General's Office revealed the existence of three more bodies under the ruins of the collapsed sixteen-storey building in the Yasamal District of Baku, Tural Musyibov, the spokesman for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Emergency Situations, said on 7 September.

The body most recently pulled out from the ruins has been identified as Akif Javarov, a Trend correspondent reported from the scene of the incident.

Javarov, born in 1967, joined the construction industry in Baku, coming from Azerbaijan's Kurdamir region.

Samir Mehdiyev, born in 1983, coming from Katehi village of Balakan District, and Akram Gubadov, born in 1985, are still trapped under the ruins.

The building which was under construction by the Mutaffakir company collapsed on 28 August at about 6:00 p.m. As a result, twenty-four people died and five were injured. According to official reports, three more people are presumed to still be buried under the ruins.

The Baku Prosecutor's Office has filed a case in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of safety regulations during construction, mining and other work, resulting in death and injury) and Article 222.1 (violation of safety regulations during construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. A preventive research group has been formed with the Prosecutor's Office and the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The Director-General of the Mutaffakir construction company, Ali Muradov, the company's Engineer General, Askar Aliyev, master builders Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, were all detained in connection with the incident. They have each been sentenced to three months imprisonment.

The Baku City Yasamal District Court sentenced Akif Maharramov, the head of the Housing Department of Baku City Executive Power, to three months imprisonment in accordance with Article 308.1 (abuse of power) of the Azerbaijan Criminal Code, the spokesman for the Azerbaijan Prosecutor General's Office, Vugar Aliyev, told Trend.
