Romanian Constanta port discloses details of MoU with Baku Sea Trade Port (exclusive)

The main objective of the memorandum of uderstanding (MoU) signed between Baku International Sea Trade Port and Romanian NC Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanta is to promote the efficient cooperation between the two ports, Nicolae Dan Tivilichi, General Manager, NC Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanta told Trend.

„The MoU signed on Oct.5, was concluded having in view the strategy of the National Company "Maritime Ports Administration" SA Constanta to increase the traffic of goods through the Port of Constanta, by developing new links with countries located in Central Asia,” he said.

Tivilichi pointed out that the main objective of this MoU is to promote the efficient cooperation between the Port of Baku and the Port of Constanta.

„Particularly, the parties are willing to promote cooperation in view of utilizing the potential capacities of the two ports for the transportation of all types of cargo (dry bulk, liquid bulk, general cargo, containerized cargo), Ro-Ro transport and passenger transport,” added the general manager.

Also, in respect of increasing the volume of cargoes, the two ports will exchange information regarding relevant traffic data, know-how and the best practice examples on port logistics, productivity and innovation, he added.

Tivilichi noted that the ports located on the Caspian Sea have a great importance along the new Silk Road as distribution centers. They are important points of origin and consumption for European goods, but especially hubs between China, India and Iran, on one hand, and the European Union, on the other hand.

„By signing this MoU, the two ports will make joint efforts to increase the traffic of cargoes, by promoting their competitive advantages as main hubs on the Silk Road. The port of Baku and also the Port of Constanta are open to initiate projects with mutual benefits that can provide a better approach and knowledge, with the possibility to identify and develop opportunities to increase the traffic of cargoes,” he said.

The general manager noted that having in view the recently signed MoU, the NC Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanta is willing to develop an efficient and prolific cooperation with the Baku Port Authority.

„We want to mention that this MoU was signed with the occasion of an important event – the „Silk Road Summit”, that was held in Constanta Port, between October 5-6, 2017. The Port of Constanta is aware of the importance of developing efficient and economically sustainable international multimodal transport corridors, as a reliable solution for the transportation of cargoes between China and Europe,” he said. „We consider that the advantages of the strategic position of Baku and Constanta ports on these international corridors can contribute to the improvement of the current business environment in both Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions.”

Tivilichi pointed out that the Port of Constanta is open to initiate joint projects with the Port of Baku, in order to enable a better approach, knowledge and exchange experience, with the possibility of identifying opportunities for the development of cargo traffic.

NC Maritime Ports Administration SA Constanta will make all the necessary efforts to promote a pro-active approach of the current situation regarding this cooperation with Baku Port Authority, he added.

„We are strongly confident that new ways and means of cooperation will be found in the future,” Tivilichi concluded.
