CAERC expert talks trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 16

By Sadraddin Aghjayev - Trend:

The mutual trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Turkey can reach $4.16 billion a year in the near future, Analyst of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications (CAERC) Amina Bayramova told Trend.

According to Bayramova, the countries of the South Caucasus and their neighbors can derive great economic benefits from the use of transport routes created by Azerbaijan. New geopolitical realities open up great opportunities for both bilateral and multilateral economic relations between the countries of the South Caucasus and their neighbors - Turkey, Russia and Iran.

"These countries, with a combined economy of $3 trillion, are among the five largest economies in the world. Azerbaijan will play the role of a transit country for each of them. This strategic position of our country is a driver for the opening of the Zangazur corridor. These countries of the region will be able to benefit greatly from the use of new transport routes created by Azerbaijan, including from the use of the Zangazur corridor," Bayramova added.

The expert noted that the Zangazur corridor and the construction of highways in the liberated territories will help to reduce the distance and reduce the cost of freight transportation by turning Azerbaijan into a regional hub between the above countries.

"Firstly, it is worth noting the projected growth in the volume of trade between Azerbaijan and Turkey to $4.16 billion per year and the increasing role of Azerbaijan as a transit country in transport between Russia and Turkey, the mutual trade turnover of which is $20 billion per year," Bayramova said.
