Azerbaijan increases cargo and passenger transportation by road transport

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 14. Cargo transit by road in Azerbaijan in January 2024 totaled to 9.3 million tons, or 53.5 percent of the total volume of cargo transportation., Trend reports.

In reference to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, cargo traffic by road grew by 6.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

In January 2024, motor transportation carried 127.5 million people, a 5.9 percent increase over the previous year. During the specified time period, buses transported 95.4 percent of passengers, while taxis and other private carriers carried 4.6 percent.

In addition, 17.3 million passengers used Baku Metro services (a 0.3 percent decline).

Meanwhile, cargo transportation by all modes of transport in Azerbaijan was 230.2 million tons in 2023, 5.3 percent more than in 2022, while passenger transportation in Azerbaijan topped 1.923 billion passengers during the reporting year, up 18.7 percent from 2022.
