Railway Deliveries Decrease in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend / State Statistic Committee has reported that 120.6mln tons of cargo was transported within January-September 2007, which is by 19.2% more as compared the same period in 2006.

Some 66.9% from total transported cargo fell on private sector. Some 48.3% was transported by automobile transport, 28% by pipelines, including 16.8% via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, 17.4% - by railway and 6.3% - by sea transport.

Some 845.9mln people were transported by passenger transports within January to September 2007, which is by 7.9% as compared the same period in 2006. Private sector made up 84.2%, automobile transport made up 84.3% and metro 14.9%.

Some 21mln tons of different cargos were transported by railway transport, which is by 7.4% less as compared to 2006.

Some 7.6mln tons of different cargos by sea transport. The figure is by 28.8% down as compared to 2006. Drop in transportation is explained by cut in transit cargo deliveries. Transport of oil and oil products made up 61.3% and 38.7% -dry cargo. Amost entire amount of cargo deliveries falls on international operations.

The volume of cargo processed in the Azerbaijani ports within January to September made up 4.1mln tons, which is by 12.1% less as compared to the same period in 2006.

Some 58.2mln tons of cargo were transported by automobile transport, which is by 9.4% more as compared to 2006. The number of passenger transport made up 713.2mln of people with an increase of 7.5%; some 96.8% of passengers were transported by bus and 3.2% by cars. The number of passenger transport by metro made up 126.4mln of people with an.increase of 9.8%.

Income from metro made up AZN 6.1mln, which is by 11.4% more as compared to 2006. Air transport increased by 18.5% and made up 1.2mln of people. 5.9% of passengers transportation by this transport was implemented by the private sector.

Some 29mln tons of oil was transported by main oil pipelines, some 69.8% transported via Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan.

Some 20.2mln tons of oil was transported from Ceyhan within seven months of 2007. The total volume oil transported by main oil pipeline increased by 3.1 times as compared to 2006. Some 6.6bln cu m of gas was transported by main gas pipeline within nine months 2007. The figure is by 13.1% lower as compared to 2006.

Some 31.1mln tons of cargo and 118.5mln passengers were transported by Eurasian transport corridor via the territory of Azerbaijan within January to September. The cost of deliveries made up AZN 154mln, which is more by 5.8% as compared to last year.
