Babayeva / The first days of the monitoring on prevention of bird flu in Azerbaijan showed a stable situation in the country, a source at the State Veterinary Service attached to the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry reported on 24 October. Final results of the monitoring will be publicized later.
The monitoring began on 22 October - the Absheron Peninsula and the nearby territories were monitored, on 23 October - Davachi region, on 24 October - Salyan region, on 25 October the monitoring group will visit Aghjabadi region, on 26 October - Lankaran region.
The monitoring of wild birds will be completed by 26 October, of domestic birds - on 2 November. The results of the laboratory research of bird blood samples will be released on 3 November.
This year the State Service carried out 9 monitoring exercises which researched 8,000 samples of wild and domestic birds. None of them revealed the virus.
Prohibition of hunting, use and sale of wild birds in Azerbaijan still retains effect. All Azerbaijani border veterinary check points work with medium security in order to prevent spread not only of bird flu but also the African plague, foot-and-mouth disease, and other viruses.
