Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Badalova / This year the Baku Metro will receive 25 new carriages, Tagi Ahmadov, the head of Baku Metro said on 6 November. The metro has received 20 carriages and the rest will arrive by the end of the year.
In 2008 the number of carriages in the Baku metro will increase.
"Next year the number of carriages is expected to increase because of the commissioning of a new subway station in Nasimi. However, the exact number is still to be confirmed," he stressed.
Ahmadov said that 225 carriages are required for normal operating of the Metro. Currently, the Baku metro has 195 carriages.
According to Ahmadov, time between trains is lower compared to 1998. Trains arrive at the station every 2-5 minutes, whereas at the end of 1990s the interval was 8-10 minutes.
