Consultant Introduced Initial Tender Documents on Construction of Garbage Processing Plant in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 12 January / corr. Trend I. Khalilova/ The British Curry& Brown, a consultant of the Ministry of Economic Development on the project on construction of hazardous wastes plant, introduced the initial variant of tender documents, Asgar Alakbarov, the head of the Investment Policy Department of the Ministry of Economic Development said.

According to the contract, the consultant will be given 16 weeks to prepare tender documents to define contractor on the construction and management of garbage processing plant and the strategy of management of hazardous wastes in Baku and Absheron.

According to Alakbarov, the tender commission is currently getting familiar with the documents developed by the consultant and later the tender will be announced.

The construction of the first plant on incineration of domestic wastes and production of electricity is likely to begin in the first half of 2008.

Tender documents will be introduced to the claimants, who are intended to submit their proposals in 6 weeks. Three companies, the Japanese EBARA, Austrian EVN and French CNIM have already submitted their proposals for the assessment. Their proposals have been assessed by Finnish Poyri.

The first plant with the capacity of 500,000 tons per year will be built in accordance with modern technology of waste incineration and electricity production.

According to official data, 1 bln. tons of domestic wastes are collected in Baku and outside of it every year.

The project will be financed totally at the expense of government resources.
