Turkmenistan, Iran sign memorandum on consular, customs and border issues

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 25 / Trend , E.Hasanov /A memorandum was recently signed in Tehran. The document consolidated the agreement reached at the 6th meeting of the intergovernmental commission on consular, customs and border issues between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the course of meeting issues concerning improvement of the visa registration system for citizens of two states; detailed regulation of procedures, connected with customs registration of loads on border; improvement of relations between boundary services of two states for protection of state border; improvement of contractual-legal base of Turkmenistan and Iran for consular, customs and boundary issues.

It was noted during the meeting that "relations between two countries were developed on friendly relations and mutual understanding principles, and the boundary between Turkmenistan and Iran is the boundary of friendship and peace.

Foreign Policy of Turkmenistan stated that the total commercial turnover between the two countries was $2.482mln in the first ten months of 2008. The dynamics of Turkmen- Iranian relations determined official visits of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimukhammedov to Tehran in June 2007 and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Ashkhabad in August the same year.

Over the last years Turkmenistan and Iran carried out large-scale projects as the building of Dostluk reservoir, Tedjen-Serakhs- Meshed railway, Korpedje-Kurtkui gas pipeline and others.
