Seventy percent of Azerbaijani real estate privatized in 18 years

An approximate 22.8-million-square-meter area or 417,000 apartments have been privatized in Azerbaijan since 1990, the State Statistics Committee said.

"About 68.8 percent of real estate has been privatized," the committee said.

About 13,000 apartments with a total area of 865,200 square meters was privatized in 2008.

Azerbaijan passed the Law on Housing Privatization in 1989. The law calls handing over apartments to Azerbaijani citizens. Citizens who privatized their apartments became owners of private property.
