In 2008 the transport enterprises and physical entities transported nearly 8.7 million tons of cargo and 52.4 million passengers to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, a source at the permanent representation of NAR in Baku said. The cargo transportation increased 8.2 percent and passenger transportation - 10.6% as compared to 2007.
The income from both directions of services totaled 29.1 million manat, which is 14 percent higher than 2007. Some 99.7 percent of cargo transportation (8.7 million tons) and 80.6 percent of passenger transportation (50.1 million people) fell on private sector.According to the data provided by the State Statistics Committee, in 2008 the entire transport sector of Azerbaijan transported 183 million tons of different cargos, which is 9.2 percent more as compared to 2007. Passenger transportation totaled 1.2 billion people, an increase of 8.2 percent from 2007.
