Air Astana ups passenger load

The Kazakh national carrier Air Astana upped its passenger load in 2008, President Peter Foster said at a civil aviation development conference in Astana.
A total of 2.3 million passengers flew on the airlines in 2008, or 8 percent more than the previous year.
Some 1.5 million flew domestic routes.
Air Astana has 21 jets. Its gross income was $667.9 million in 2008 compared to $545.7 million in 2007. The company's income was $11.6 million in 2008 compared to $35.3 million the previous year.
"Air Astana is prepared to organize regional subsidiaries and increase passenger transport," Foster said.
Air Astana operates 22 domestic and 20 international routes. The company employs 2,800 people.
