Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.20 / Trend corr U. Ismayilova / Influence of the world financial crisis in tourism wasn't observed in 2008 but expected to occur in 2009-2010, head of the tourism department of the Azerbaijani Tourism and Culture Ministry Aydin Ismiyev said on Feb.20.
"As of 2008, foreigners coming in the country hit 1.89 million in number, Thus, 1.4 million of them were tourists though the crisis kicked off in the second half of the year.
According to Ismiyev, the influence in the crisis in this sphere is a normal process. It is observed in all countries. Number of tourists reduces simultaneously with reduction of financial funds.
The tourism department of the ministry currently analyzes the market due to the influence of the crisis.
In 2002, Azerbaijan had about 90 hotels. Currently, this figure makes up 377 including 59 in the regions of the country.
