The Azerbaijani Finance Ministry is dissatisfied with the level of automation at the Treasury, Minister Samir Sharifov said.

"We will try to update the system introduced by SAP to meet higher standards," he said.

The process of automating the Treasury will be conducted over several years.

The system has been operating on a pilot regime in a number of regions. However, "we are not satisfied with the process completely," Sharifov said.

"The sum of expenditures needed to update the system has not been determined. This is an expansion process that will cover not only Baku, but all the regions," the minister said.

The Treasury encountered software problems in 2008. The software was introduced by SAP. The government's programmers and outside experts from SAP were later invited to remove the problems.

The automation is being conducted with the help of software to improve the activities of public sector organizations, Sharifov said.

Full automation of the Treasury will allow uniformity in accounting operations.

As a result, the budget expenditure mechanism will be improved, he added.
