World Bank releases survey of interests as a part of railway construction project in Azerbaijan

The World Bank has released survey of interests on technical assistance to Azerbaijan's State Railway Office to replace power supply along Baku-Boyuk Kasik corridor, upgrade of signaling system and purchase of cars.  

The survey of interests is conducted as a part of the project "Support for Trade and Transport of Azerbaijani Railway", the bank said.

The first part of the project composes rehabilitation of East-West trunk-road, which includes the reconstruction of track and signaling and power supply (shift to 25 kV AC with 3.3 kV constant). The second component involves the acquisition of 50 new locomotives.

Technical assistance project will last 40 months. Applications are accepted until August 12, 2009.

The World Bank will issue $673.8 million in loan for Azerbaijan government for this project.
