GDP growth rate tops 4 percent in Azerbaijan

In January-May 2009, Azerbaijani GDP increased 4.4 percent compared to 2008, the State Statistics Committee said. In current prices GDP indicator made up 11.4 billion manats.

GDP per capita amounted to 1,317.1 manat ($1.638).

9.3 percent of value added was formed through the net taxes on production and imports.

General production volume in all economic sectors increased 3.9 percent, amounting to 60 percent of the GDP. Industry composed the bulk at 46.9 percent, or 5.3 billion manat. The services sector accounted for 5.9 percent of the GDP.

In January-May, agriculture, hunting and forestry provided 338.4 million manat, or 3 percent of the GDP; construction - 1.150 million manat (10.1 percent); transport - 818.2 manat (7.2 percent); communication and post service - 251.9 million manat (2.2 percent); wholesale and retail trade, automobile field, domestic products and repairing personal-use items - 952.9 million manat (8.4 percent); restaurants and hotels - 142.9 million manat (1.3 percent); and social and other services - 1.319.8 million manat (11.6 percent).

On June 16, the official exchange rate is 0.8039 manat to $1.
