The Azerbaijani Government has not yet clarified which areas will receive a European Union grant worth €20 million to encourage the development of the countryside and agriculture, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister Ismet Abbasov told Trend .

At present this issue is under discussion, but undoubtedly funds will be directed to encourage the development of the country's agro-industrial infrastructure, minister said.

About €12 million will be directed to a program encouraging the development of the countryside and agriculture and €6 million to increase administrative potential in Azerbaijan, in accordance with the Action Plan Agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU in 2006, implementing the Agreement on Cooperation and Partnership signed in 1996.

The funds worth €20 million were allocated to Azerbaijan by the European Union Neighbourhood Policy, which provides annual aid to Azerbaijan and 16 other countries located in the eastern and southern borders of the EU.
