Azerbaijan will open a reference center in January 2010, Standardization, Metrology and Patents Committee Chairman Ramiz Hasanov said.
"The establishment of the reference center in Azerbaijan is implemented as part of a twining program with the EU," he said. "The country is expected to purchase the necessary equipment to begin work in January. The state committee pays particular attention to establishment of the center."
It is difficult to speak about the quality of goods and services in the absence of accurate measurements, he added. The state committee is working to implement and install the necessary standards and develop programs to improve the standard base, Hasanov said.
Azerbaijan is establishing the reference center partly with an EU grant.
