IKCO exports hits 20,000

Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Company has exported some 20,000 sets of different cars since the beginning of the Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2009).

The amount is projected to increase to 36,000 by the end of the year.

IKCO deputy CEO for export affairs Amir-Abbas Hosseini made the statement adding: "Iraq, Syria, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, CIS countries, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Eastern Europe, and Turkey were the main export destinations in the mentioned period."

Iran Khodro is the largest automobile producer in Iran which was founded in 1962. Iran Khodro has produced Samand as Iran''s first national car which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform.

The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under license from the French firm. In 2009, Peugeot 206, Peugeot Pars, Peugeot 405, Peugeot Roa, and Samand sedans were IKCO''s export-bound cars.
