In February 2010, employed people in Kazakhstan numbered 7.9 million, the Kazakh Statistics Agency told Trend .

Compared to the same period of 2009, the number of employed increased by 131,900 or 1.7 per cent. The agency reported that the hired employees numbered 5.3 million people, unemployed 5.3 million people with an unemployment rate of 6.5 percent in this period.

According to Kazakh Statistics Agency, the number of unemployed in February of 2010, was amounted to 552,700people, the unemployment rate - 6.5 per cent.

As for late February, the employment agencies of the Kazakh Ministry of Labour and Social Protection registered 73,200 people. The share of registered unemployed amounted to 0.9 percent of the economically active population, which is by 0.8 percent points more than the same period last year. According to the statistics agency, the level of hidden unemployment comprised 0.6 percent of the economically active population.

Hidden unemployment (involuntary part-time employment) shows how many workers are employed in a shorter working week or part-time, and is on administrative leave without payment or with partial payment.
The level of hidden unemployment is the share of those who are partially employed and forced to be on holidays among the economically active population, measured in percentage.
