The Slovakia-Azerbaijan business forum will identify opportunities for cooperation, which correspond to our potential, Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak said at the opening of the business forum in Baku.
"Presently, several Slovakian companies, which successfully presented themselves in the road sector, operate in Azerbaijan," he said. "We are working towards cooperation in the energy sector and construction of hydropower."
According to him, Azerbaijan has great potential and Slovakia is ready to cooperate in the fields of agriculture, environmental protection and other fields.
"Slovakia successfully passed the process of economic transitions, joined EU and adopted all the European standards. Presently, Azerbaijan is successfully passes the path of economic transformation, and this gives us a unique opportunity to develop relations in this field," he added.
He said that during his Azerbaijan visit he discussed the establishment of contractual-legal basis between the two countries.
"We are going to sign eight agreements, among which the most important are the agreements on investment protection, avoidance of double taxation," the minister said. "We have also agreed to establish a joint intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation and to hold cultural days. I have informed my colleague about steps taken by Slovakia to facilitate the visa regime."
The Slovak delegation submitted proposals on cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
"We will continue to discuss regional issues. It is very important for us to know Azerbaijan's position on certain regional issues, particularly, on energy security, which is very important for EU and Slovakia. We are well aware of Azerbaijan's strategic role in this regard and will discuss the role of Azerbaijan, which it can play in ensuring energy security of Slovakia," he added.
In turn, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov added that Azerbaijan and Slovakia have decided to raise relations to a higher level.
"Azerbaijan and Slovakia have the same political views on many issues at the international level, including the issue of territorial integrity," he added.
