Iranian State Committee: Iran will not observe significant rise in bread prices after implementing plan on subsidies

According to the conducted studies, after implementing a plan on targeted subsidies a significant increase in bread prices will not be observed in Iran, Fars news agency quotes Muhammed Reza Farzin, the spokesman for the Iranian State Committee for implementation of the plan on subsidies and economic development as reporting.

According to the conducted studies, after implementing a plan on targeted subsidies a significant increase in bread prices will not be observed in Iran, Fars news agency quotes Muhammed Reza Farzin, the spokesman for the Iranian State Committee for implementation of the plan on subsidies and economic development as reporting.

"Today bread price in Iran is divided into four categories [vary in flour quality]," Farzin said.

The Iranian Commerce Ministry buys one kilogram of wheat for 0.315 dollars and sells flour for bread baking in the domestic market at the subsidized prices for 0.0043, 0.0072, 0.38 dollars and free price - 0.4 dollars.

This year (year begins in Iran March 21) the Iranian Government has allocated subsidies amounting to more than 2.883 billion dollars to purchase wheat for the domestic market saturation.

"The Iranian Government continues to provide subsidies to support agricultural farmers to ensure food safety and buys wheat for 0.315 dollars per kilogram, while today the world wheat price is 0.24 dollars per kilogram, and last year it was 0.17 dollars," Farzin said.

At present, 44,000 enterprises for bread baking and 10,000 bakeries involved also in retail trade operate in Iran.
