Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 25 / Trend H.Hasanov /
A two-day meeting of an Turkmen-Chinese committee for cooperation opened in Ashgabat yesterday, an official Turkmen source said today.
The Turkmen Commerce and Industry Chamber and the China's Center for Foreign Trade have been developing a draft agreement on cooperation since the second half of 2010.
China has recently upped its operations in Central Asia. In 2009, its total trade turnover with Turkmenistan amounted to $1.5 billion. The figure has increased 40 times compared to 2000.
The significant breakthrough is associated with the Turkmenistan-China Pipeline. China started importing Turkmen gas under a long-term contract in late 2009.
Thirty-seven enterprises with Chinese capital operate in Turkmenistan. They cover 57 registered investment projects worth more than $4 billion.
China is represented in Turkmenistan in projects in the oil and gas, telecommunications, transport, agriculture, textile, chemical and food industry and construction sectors.
