Turnover of cash on plastic cards increased by 1.7 times, reaching up to 5.556 trillion soums in Uzbekistan during 2010, compared to the same period of 2009, the Azerbaijani Association of Banks said.
The number of plastic cards handed out by banks in Uzbekistan this year amounted to 7.869 million compared to 6.059 million the previous year, increasing 1.3 times. The total number of payment terminals has reached 85.7 compared to 56.700, with an increased by 1.5 times, while the number of ATMs and kiosks reached 664 compared to 363, increasing 1.8 times) and banking terminals grew to 4.01 compared to 3.93 a year earlier.
The number of transactions on plastic cards increased more than twice their number in 2009.
The enterprises producing smart cards and payment terminals have been exempted from import duties on imported raw materials, component materials, software and licenses required for the production of plastic cards and smart equipment.
The interbank clearing system, combined with the processing center and built on technology and software of the Austrian BGS Smartcard Systems, has been operating since 2001.
The official exchange rate of soum against U.S. dollar is 164,000 soums per $1.
