Gold replaces petrol in Iranian import

The total non-oil exports of Iran, taking into account gas condensate, amounted to $22.483 billion during the first nine months (a year in Iran ends on March 21), increasing by 21.59 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, the press office of the Iranian Customs Administration said.

During this period, roughly 50.063 million tons with growth of 26.59 percent on an annualized basis were exported.

Iranian export amounted to $19.143 billion without gas condensate, increasing by 27.1 percent over the same period of last year.

The total volume of exported products (excluding gas condensate) amounted to 45.045 million tons, or 35.72 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the period, roughly 33.864 million tons (with a decline of 3.03 percent) totaling $47.07 billion were imported to Iran, increasing by 26.07 percent.

The biggest weight (5.26 percent) in Iranian exports falls to propane. It was exported to the amount of $1.8 billion. Ethylene ranks second on export volumes; it was exported to the amount of $993.3 million. The export of iron ore for the period totaled $798.3 million, with weight of 4.17 percent, methanol - $763.8 million (3.99 percent).
The share of oil and liquefied natural gas was $718.1 million (with weight of 3.75 percent) in the structure of export.
There are changes in the nomenclature of Iranian export. Earlier, both fresh and processed pistachios, plastic film, liquid polyethylene, liquid butane, and carpets were mainly exported from the country. Accordingly, the list of countries - importers of Iranian goods - also changed.
During the reporting period, Iran's main trading partner is China (earlier Iraq ranked first), which imported Iranian products worth $3.409 billion. Roughly 17.81 percent of non-oil exports of Iran for the first nine months fell to China. Iraq ranked second (earlier China held this position), which accounted for $3.215 billion, with weight of 16.79 percent of total exports of Iran. The UAE ranked third (as before), which imported Iranian goods worth $2.552 billion, with weight of 13.33 percent. India imported goods worth $1.271 billion, Afghanistan - $985 million.
There are changes in the import structure of Iran. During the reporting period, Iran imported mainly gold, whereas petrol ranked first the previous year. Gold imports amounted to 10.26 percent of total imports for the nine months. The weight of iron and steel ingots was 3.88 percent, iron and steel sheets - 1.64 percent.

The UAE mainly exports to Iran. The weight in the total volume of Iranian imports hits 32.23 percent or $15.171 billion. China left Germany behind, with weight of 8.51 percent ($4.4 billion) in the structure of import. Germany (6.97 percent or $3.281 billion), Turkey (6.35 percent) and Switzerland (6.2 percent) follow it.
