Iran ranks 129th in unemployment

Iran ranks 129th in the world in terms of unemployment as the country's unemployment rate decreased by 13 points, Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) director general Behrouz Alishiri said, Iran's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance reported.

The Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) announced that as many as 2,839,973 million people are regarded as unemployed in Iran. Unemployment ratio increased by 1.5 percent in the Iranian calendar year of 1388 (ended March 20, 2010) compared to previous year, hitting 11.9 percent.

According to the Iranian Government, Iran's unemployment rate was 11.8 percent in 2010.

A review of employment in major economic sectors says that the service sector had the highest rate of workforce with 47.4 percent in 2009

The industrial sector with 31.8 percent and agriculture with 20.8 percent stood in lower places, respectively.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that unemployment in the country will be eradicated in the next two years.

He said that the administration presented a bill to the Majlis (parliament) last April calling to allocate 20 percent of oil revenues to the National Development Fund in accordance with the Fifth Development Plan (2010-2015) to create jobs for the youth of the country.
