Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan accelerate volumes of mutual trade

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan increased the total volume of bilateral trade by more than 50 percent last year. It reached about $270 million, the official Turkmen source said.

Two countries are bounded by several major projects. A gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan was opened in December 2009. The parties are also considering the possibility of cooperation in implementing the railway project that will connect Central Asia with the Persian Gulf countries.
During the summit talks, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan agreed to prepare an intergovernmental agreement on free trade. The next meeting of the joint Turkmen-Uzbek commission for trade-economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation is planned to be held in Tashkent on February 21-23.
