Baku International Sea Trade Port handles over 1mln tons of cargo

The Baku International Sea Trade Port transshipped 270,000 tons of ferry cargo in February compared to 35,000 tons in January, a source at the port said.

The source said the figure was 620,000 in January-February 2011.

The port handled 2.93 million tons of ferry cargo in 2010, which is 28 percent more than in 2009.

Also according to the source, 765 containers were transshipped in January 2011 compared to 795 units in January 2010. The source said the figure was 1,560 containers in January-February 2011.

Some 9,600 containers were transshipped in 2010, which is three times more than 2009. Most of container traffic transshipment falls to containers of humanitarian supplies sent from Europe to Kazakhstan (Aktau).

The port handled 1.1 million tons of cargo in January-February, the source said.
In total in 2010 the port transshipped 5.76 million tons of various cargo, which is 12 percent more than 2009, the source said.
A significant increase in overall handling and handling of certain types of goods is linked with the commissioning of the renovated 12-berth port and increase in cargo traffic in the direction of Europe and Asia, as well as an increase in the transshipment of oil cargo from Turkmenistan.
