Number of insurance contracts in 2010 exceeds one million

About 1,051,816 insurance contracts have been signed in Azerbaijan in 2010, the State Insurance Supervision Service under the Finance Ministry said.

Of these, 10,703 contracts accounted for the life insurance, which envisage the insurance coverage of 16,189 persons (or their families) for the harm caused to their life or health. Most of these contracts was concluded on the life insurance in case of death (9,386 contracts), as well as life insurance (1,236 contracts). About 12,535 people were insured for the first type of the insurance, and 1,236 people for the second type.

A total of 1,041,113 policies were signed on non-life-insurance. Of them, 657,888 contracts accounted for voluntary insurance, 383,225 - obligatory.

The main part in the non-life-insurance in 2010 accounted for insurance from accidents and diseases (371,970), health insurance (34,740), property insurance from fire and other hazards (102,307), insurance of motor vehicles (44,585) , insurance of cargo (59,056), insurance of citizens traveling abroad (59,767).

More than 90 percent of contracts of compulsory insurance accounted for the contract for motor TPL insurance. Also 15,909 contracts were concluded on compulsory insurance from fire.

In 2010, 1,403 cases of insurance were recorded, for which 335,600 manat was paid. About 55.053 million manat was paid for non-life-insurance for 99,389 cases.
