Azerbaijan ranks second on number of visitors to Georgia

Some 139,706 Azerbaijanis visited Georgia in the first three months of 2011. Azerbaijan yields only to Turkey (149,145 people) on the number of visitors to Georgia, the Georgian National Tourism Agency reported.

The number of Turks visiting Georgia has increased by 47 percent. The figure increased due to increases in the number of the Turkish citizens paying a business trip to Georgia and Turkish citizens visiting the Adjara region, particularly Batumi for gambling.

The Azerbaijani tourists mainly had vocations in the ski resorts of Georgia, particularly in Bakuriani.

Some 486,506 people visited Georgia in the first quarter of 2011, which is 41 percent more compared to the same period of 2010.

The Agency reported that the number of visitors from Russia increased by 35 percent. The visitors from Moscow and the North Caucasus, particularly from Vladikavkaz, spent the winter season at a ski resort in Gudauri.
