AZAL intends to get permission to launch flights to the United States by 2014, AZAL Deputy Chairman Sabir Ilyasov said.
"I think that we will complete all the procedures and obtain permission by 2014," he said.
He added that the flight requirements are "very high."
"It is necessary to pass certain audits," he said. "We are prepared for these flights. We have hired a U.S. company to prepare us for this process."
He said the exact cities have yet to be determined. Marketing studies are underway.
AZAL will receive a Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft (two aircrafts) in 2014.
Buying the aircrafts will allow AZAL to open new routes to Europe, Southeast Asia and America.
