Azerbaijan, Baku, November 14 / Trend /

A strategic plan for the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan for the first time ever will be developed under the participation of specialists of the World Customs Organization (WCO), Shahin Bagirov, Chief of the SCC Customs Control Head Division, told the opening ceremony of the first strategic planning seminar for the SCC held in the WCO regional office on Monday.

"A plan of measures of customs service development has so far been implemented in Azerbaijan, and the State Customs System Development Program for 2007-2011 nears its completion at the moment," Bagirov said.

Bistra Teodosiyeva, a WCO representative, will provide assistance to the development of the strategic plan. She says the plan will contribute substantially to formation of Azerbaijan's SCC as an agency corresponding to international standards.

Vitaly Mikeladze, Head of the WCO Regional Office, says the WCO Baku Office will play a particular role in the strengthening of the potential of Eurasian region, since Azerbaijan, due to its location between Europe and Asia, is considered a favorable country from the point of geographical location. The Office's being in operation here is expedient from the point of coordination of work of the customs services of either Europe or Asia.
