Kyrgyzstan's joining the Customs Union (CU) of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia might help the country to reform several areas of national economy such as agriculture and light industry, KyrTAG quotes Ulukman Kalibekov, a Kyrgyz expert, as saying.

Membership in the CU can help to modernize Kyrgyz agriculture due to opening borders and canceling the customs duties with the organization's member-states, the expert said.

He believes Kyrgyzstan's agriculture is in a very bad condition and its reformation needs targeting on export.

The CU joining may also open new prospects for Kyrgyz textile industry. In case Kyrgyzstan enters the union, its textile will get new huge export market, Kalibekov said.

"Customs borders with China, which will be established if Kyrgyzstan joins the CU, will make Kyrgyz textile industry's employees enlarge the scale of their work," he added.

The CU came into force on January 1, 2010. Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia decided to remove all customs borders between each other after July, 2011.
