The Kazakh National Maritime Shipping Company Kazmortransflot plans in the next two years to purchase two dry cargo vessels with a total capacity of 7,000 tons, the company's head Marat Ormanov said in an interview with Megalopolis newspaper.
"According to the long-term development strategy, Kazmortransflot plans to purchase two dry cargo vessels with deadweight of 5,000-7,000 tons in 2012-2013," Ormanov said.
Earlier, Kazmortransflot purchased two large-capacity tankers Aframax. The tankers were accepted in the Georgian port of Batumi on December 9.
According to Ormanov, Kazmortransflot's fleet count 21 vessels, including eight tankers with total tonnage of about 305,000 tones, five tugboats and eight barges with carrying capacity of 3.600 tons each.
"According to Kazmortransflot's development strategy until 2020, the company plans to increase its fleet total tonnage to 1.426 million tons through the acquisition of another eight large vessels," Ormanov said.
Kazmortransflot was founded by the Kazakh government in 1998 to bolster the sea transport in the country and create a national merchant shipping company. The company specializes in delivery of different types of cargo, including oil and products, general cargo, containers, etc., construction, exploitation, repair of all types of vessels, as well as leasing of vessels.
