Caspian Shipping transported about 12.5 million tons of cargo in 2011, or 6.7 percent more than in 2010, head Aydin Bashirov wrote in the Respublika newspaper on Friday.
About 7.24 million tons of the total volume of cargo transported in 2011 accounted for tanker fleet, more than 3.8 million tons for ferries, and about 1.43 million tons for multipurpose vessels.
Acquiring the "Aghdam" and "Shahdag" vessels in the autumn, the number of the shipping company's ferries in the Eurasian corridor reached 11 units.
Bashirov said by late 2012 the company plans to include two ferries manufactured by the Croatian Uljanik shipyard in its ferry fleet.
