State Committee: Regional planning in Azerbaijan already covers whole country

State Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of Azerbaijan will start to prepare a regional plan for the development of yet another economic region of the country in 2012, deputy chairman of the State Committee Dovlethan Dovlethanov told Trend on Monday.

Deputy Chairman of the committee Dovlethan Dovlethanov said earlier the State Committee is working on the preparation of regional plans for the five economic regions of the country.

"It is the development plans of Ganja-Gazakh, Guba-Khachmaz, Sheki-Zagatala, Lankaran and the Aran economic regions. We are now in the process of finalizing the tender for the preparation of the plan of the Nagorno-Shirvan Economic Region, which includes Shamakhi, Agsu and Ismayilli regions. We are planning to complete the work by 2013. Taking into account that the plan of greater Baku is being prepared now, we can say that we have covered the entire region," Dovlethanov said.

These regional development plans in fact, will be the strategic plans of regional development for the next 20 years, he said.

We are also planning to begin the work on general plans of such regional centres as Balakian, Neftchala, Siyazan Zaqatala and others. And we planned to prepare them by 2013," Dovlethanov said.

The Deputy Chairman said the State Committee has prepared a detailed planning of the city Yevlakh, Sheki, Gah, Barda, Agdash, Ujar, Jalilabad, Masalli, Gobustan, Shamakhi, Lankaran, Ismayilli and Samukh.

"The regional development plans will be the basic documents on which various local authorities will refer in the future," he added.
