Azerbaijan, Iraq sign memorandum to start direct flights

Azerbaijan and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding on the possibility of opening direct flights between the two countries, secretary of the Iraqi embassy in Azerbaijan, Jassim Mohammed Ahmed told Trend.

Azerbaijan and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding on the possibility of opening direct flights between the two countries, secretary of the Iraqi embassy in Azerbaijan, Jassim Mohammed Ahmed told Trend.

He said the memorandum was signed by deputy director of State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan Fuad Guliyev and the director general of Civil Aviation Administration of Iraq Nasser Hussain Bandera who was part of a delegation of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Administration's visit to the country.

"According to the memorandum, the parties considered the opening of direct flights between the Azerbaijani cities of Baku, Nakhchivan, Ganja and Gabala and the Iraqi cities of Baghdad, Najaf, Basra and Arbil," Ahmed said.

It is anticipated that the first flight will be opened between the cities of Baku and Najaf. During the visit both sides discussed the issue of simplification of freight traffic between the countries.
