Non-oil industry increases by 8.7 percent in Azerbaijan

Industrial production output [produced goods and rendered services of industrial character] in Azerbaijan amounted to 17.5 billion manat during the six months of 2012, which is 3 percent less than in 2011, the State Committee on Statistics said on Monday.

The share of private sector decreased by 3.8 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 81.9 percent of total industrial production. At the same time 92.6 per cent accounts for the production of industrial goods, 7.4 percent - industrial services. Production in non-oil industrial sector increased by 8.7 percent.

The volume of production in the mining industry decreased by 5.4 percent, amounting to 13.52 billion manat with weight of 77 percent of all industrial production during the reporting period. Oil production for the period amounted to 22.2 million tones (with a decrease by 6.8 percent) and natural gas - 8.8 billion cubic meters (by 8.2 percent).

Production volume in processing industry amounted to 3.09 billion manat in January-June, increasing by 13.6 percent compared to the same period in 2011. During the reporting period there was a decline in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (drop by 75.9 percent), wood processing and manufacturing of wood products (46.2 percent), paper and cardboard (36.9 percent) and tobacco (21 per cent) and so on.

A 12.9-fold increase in the production of computers and other electronic equipment were observed during the reporting period, rubber and plastic products - by 3.4 times in the printing industry - by 2.1 times, in furniture manufacturing - by 3.5 times, in the textile industry - 1.98 times, and so on
