Over 100 countries transit goods via Iran: official

More than 100 countries are currently transiting their goods via Iran, the Iranian deputy roads and urban development minister said.

Shahryar Afandizadeh told the IRNA news agency that during the past three years, the transition of goods via Iran has increased by 75 percent.

On September 5, Customs Administration Head Abbas Memarnejad told the ISNA news agency that some 4.5 million tons of goods were also transited via Iran during the first five months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 20.

Memarnejad said that Iran imported some 15.7 million tons of goods, worth around $21.9 billion in the five-month period of time.

The official added that Iran exported around $43.7 billion worth of non-oil goods in the past calendar year and imported some $61.8 billion worth of goods, to hit the unprecedented mark of $105 billion in annual trade.
